Feeling Anti-Social

I’ve been feeling very anti-social this past week. I’ve not wanted to talk to anyone including family and friends. All I want is to wrap myself up at home and not venture out at all. I’ve not had the energy or inclination to do anything other then crochet Darryl’s blanket and listen to my books on tap. It’s curious but when my hands are busy and I have a Jane Austen book to listen to I always feel so much better.

Of course I know why I’m feeling this way. Normally I don’t give in to depression, but this week was very hard. I’m missing my dad very much and knowing that this is one more holiday that I will never spend with him again. I know each holiday will bring the same heart wrenching feelings and tears, but I hope the good memories will soon bring smiles instead.

Monty Python’s witty John Cleese aims to educate the masses with this enlightening, snoot-free wine guide that finds Cleese guiding novices through the basics — finding wines you like, getting the best value, and serving and storing wine at home. His user-friendly vintner’s tour includes lessons in wine vocabulary and identifying subtle flavors, as well as useful tips for corking up condescending sommeliers.

I really enjoyed this documentary. I love John Cleese so of course I had to add it to my instant queue, but he was actually very informative. I’m not really a wine connoisseur, but I love a glass of Cabernet or Merlot every now and then. This show actually presented the information in layman’s terms so it’s easier to understand. The best thing is it didn’t make me feel stupid because I didn’t know the “catch phrases” of wine. If you’re a wine lover then check it out.

An unusual explorer named Gum (Richard Griffiths) and his kindly niece (Emilia Fox) adopt three orphans — Pauline (Emma Watson), Petrova (Yasmin Paige) and Posy (Lucy Boynton) — and raise them as sisters in 1930s London. But the girls must fend for themselves when Gum doesn’t return from one of his adventures. Together, they nurture their passions for acting, aviation and ballet in this charming TV adaptation of Noel Streatfield’s novel.

It’s okay… felt really rushed at the end. Not a movie I would buy, but not bad for an instant queue watch.

Thrifting and other things

I’m not feeling very happy today so Darryl took me out to breakfast and then let me stroll through some thrift stores. I bought some vintage pillow cases and fabric (that I plan on making bags with), this cool bowl with a painted dogwood blossom on it (that Darryl hates), and another basket (for my yarn).

Darryl found this in the glass section. WTF??? Who would buy a used Vlasic Pickle jar???? Who collects that stuff???

I picked this cookbook up at the library book sale for .35 cents. Darryl and I are fascinated by it. Most of the ingredients are recognizable, but there are some that I have no clue how to get my hands on.

I hate math! hate math! hate math!

I’ve finally finished and passed Quantitative Literacy: Statistics, Probability, & Problem Solving. I’m so glad to have this test behind me forever! The stress of this course has weighed heavy on my shoulders. So heavy that my sleep and eating patterns have changed for the worse, and I’ve been off kilter for weeks. I’m just so honestly glad to have it over with!

On the bright side Darryl and I have joined a hiking club. It starts May 2nd and will meet every Sunday until June 27th. We will hike a total of 70 miles in the course of the two months. I”ll be bringing my camera with me so I’ll be able to post lots of good photos each Sunday night. It’ll be nice to get some exercise and hangout with my hubby in the nice outdoors.

I’ll be happy to have some time off in May. It will give me the chance to get some of my long standing projects done. Hopefully I’ll also have time to post some photos of the projects that I’ve already finished.
